Happy Monday! Today, I am continuing a conversation with a post about Healthy Living over 70: Another Evaluation.
This conversation about healthy living over 70 began a month ago with a post called AM I 70 GOING ON 40?
This was when I evaluated my own healthy living against an article I found online.
Let me tell you…there are many of those articles about healthy living over 70…and, for the most part, they all say the same things.
So, I would like to add my own take on healthy living over 70 and combine it with the points we so often see.
Once again…I will evaluate how I am doing in these areas
So, please join me today for Healthy Living over 70: Another Evaluation.
HEALTHY LIVING OVER 70: POINT #1

POINT #1: Smile and Laugh Daily
No scientific data here, but I believe the fountain of youth lies in our smiles…and even a healthy sense of humor.
When my grandsons saw the outfit I am wearing here, they told me I looked like football star, Travis Hunter, at the NFL draft.
After looking up Travis Hunter, I am still laughing at this one. He wore a jacket almost exactly this color.
Over 70, is the time when we need to let go of past grievances… our need to control others…and a victim-mentality to just smile and laugh.
Even during difficult times, take a moment to remember the good times and smile with gratitude. No matter how small, a moment to smile is critical to have a healthy lifestyle over 70.

#2: Move More…Workout and Get Out of the House
Right after my two foot surgeries, I sat for a very long time…and that is not good at all…I actually experienced what they does to our bodies over 70.
It slows out blood flow…slows metabolism…makes our skin look dull and older….and it is harder to sleep well with out it.
Also, if we are not moving, we are much more likely to fall into a depression, or become angry women, or even riddled with anxiety.
I make sure that I get out and about in my new community and I do my best to be on the treadmill at the YMCA as often as possible.
The more I move, the younger I feel.
However, one article I read encouraged us to go out at night and said that you will feel younger if you go out at night alone.
I respectively disagree…we live in a new world where danger must be considered. Before you go out at night in an attempt to feel younger, please consider your safety.
I must have someone with me at night since I am currently dealing with cataracts. I cannot drive at night alone…that is not safe for anyone.
But, once the cataracts are removed, I still will not go out at night alone….in most places, it is too dangerous.

#3: Hydrate…the Minute You Get Out of Bed
I have been doing this for many years after a super model in her 60s told me to for my complexion. First thing every morning, I drink at least 8 ounces of water…before anything else goes into my system.
Once I have done that, I do have a cup of coffee with collagen in it.
I think both of these things has slowed my wrinkles down…and of course I have them…but they are hydrated and softened.
I did go through a few scares with dehydration years ago…but I hydrate regularly now and that is in my past.

#4: Stress is a Huge Factor to Bring on Aging Faster
The idea here is that stress increases cortisol…which breaks down collagen…resulting in faster aging.
I have already confessed that the past two years have been stressful and I do believe increased cortisol was the main reason for rapid weight gain.
Also, prior to the stress, I always felt younger than my age…however, these past two years, there have been times, I have felt…well, old.
I am improving in this area. One way is awareness. When stress begins to set in, I immediately go to prayer and calm down. I am also working once again on losing weight and on working out.
For anyone about to make a major move or change in your life, be aware of the toll stress will take on you and make a plan to control it.
HEALTHY LIVING OVER 70: #5

#5: Get a good night’s sleep…however, you define it
The articles I read only talked about the damage that poor sleep has on our skin…it breeds wrinkles…but I also know that it makes weight loss more difficult and hurts our bodies and attitudes.
Again, for me, these past two years have been wrought with poor sleep days…but that is improving as well.
For me, if I am true to go to bed at the same time and arise at the same time, then I will feel rested.
I cannot wear one of those watches any longer that track my sleep, but I am so sensitive to wake up, that the watch keeps me from sleeping.
I rarely sleep 8 hours, but I try my best to go for 6.
If I have not slept well, I definitely feel it.

#6: Women Who Completely Avoid Sunlight Age Faster
Avoiding sunlight affects Vitamin D levels and hurts our healthy living over 70 and our attitudes.
I am better with this where I live now, than where I previously lived. The mornings and even evenings are so nice and beautiful that it is easy to go outside.
Of course, I can list more healthy living over 70 points…and may continue with the conversation soon….but now it is up to you…what do you think about these healthy living points today.
Do you believe in any of these practices I have put before you? Are you a work in progress in some of these areas as I am?
I hope we can continue the conversation and help each other out with what works best and what doesn’t. I do not want any of us not enjoying this special time of life because we feel old.
There is still too much joy to experience!
Thanks for being here…I hope to see you tomorrow….until then….
